Let's Get Acquainted Linky!

It's time to Get Acquainted!
With this being a pretty new blog, it's time for my few readers to get to know me so I'm linking up with Flying into First for a fun linky party.

I'll pick a row that makes a tic-tac-toe and share about those topics. Woohoo!

Here we go.......the middle row!

1. Share about your first year of teaching.   Wellllll, I started in a district wide Preschool program mid-year.  The building had an unused room so mid-year they decided they could host a preschool classroom. I had just graduated in Dec and started my first day in Jan when winter break finished. Those poor kiddos, I hope they got SOMETHING out of those few months we were together.   My first FULL year was still in that school (who am I kidding, I'm still in that same building) and I had 16 preschoolers and a full time classroom aide.  That seems like forever ago, although it was in 2006.  I'm still amazed that some of those kiddos got anything out of preschool but they did and we still keep in touch.  We had a loose curriculum so I kinda taught what I thought I needed to do.  Wow, couldn't pull that off now, for sure (thankfully)

2. My favorite school memory as a kid.  This one is kinda tricky. I always enjoyed school, never had any problems.  I remember my teachers the most though...the good ones AND the bad ones (no names mentioned here, just in case, haha).  I remember taking the state assessment in 5th grade and some of the boys intentionally making pictures out of the bubbling. I remember doing Science Olympiad - the science club - and getting to go to competions and do the egg drop and penny barge.  I remember getting my 1st chapter book. I remember my favorite chapter book, "Banner in the Sky"

3. Books I'm reading.  This one I can do because they're all piled up here beside me!  I have "The Leader in Me",  "7 Habits of Highly Effective People", "Cinderella Smith", "Secrets at Sea", and Jillian Michael's "Slim for Life".  Whew.  A few professional reads that I'm working through,  chapter read aloud books for this fall, and loving on JM's book!

There ya go! 3 tidbits of me you might not have known!

Summer Reads

Summer for teachers means laying poolside and sleeping in for 3 months...right? Riiiiight.
Actually my summers typically do involve a lot of laid back time, not much sleeping in with two little ones though.  We have been playing outside, playing inside, playing princess and playing, playing, playing.   I love spending summers with my girls. Prior to having babies though, I spent my summers working on school stuff so its nice to have this professional break and let my mind relax a bit.

But that doesn't mean I'm on full hiatus.  I have my "next year to-do" list,  I constantly follow my favorite teacher blogs, scanning Pinterest and delving into professional books.  With the possibility of teaching a split next year, my mind wanders often to thinking about what that will look like in our classroom.

So what exactly am I reading? A bunch.  I'm trying to find new chapter book read alouds for next year, which is proving to be fairly hard.  Looking at books to read aloud that can capture their attention yet be good literature (and not bore me too much).  I'm also in midst of a book study on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  We are hoping to eventually be a Leadership school, which means. I've gotta get myself in order first!  A small group of teachers at my school are working through the book this summer and so far its been a great read. Maybe I can reflect and review it on here when I'm done!
PD on the plane to Cozumel

And somehow I have a book laying around "just for fun" for when I get spare time, haha. Although I actually finished TWO whole books this past week.......okay, I was in Cozumel for a week and had some of that "spare" time.
Until next time...
